Santa Catalina Monastery - Arequipa, Peru

We went to Santa Catalina Monastery, a city within a city, it's a convent thats been around since the 1570's, it's a bit expensive for Peru, 35soles admission (10euro) but it's definitely worth it, it's one of the most impressive places I have ever seen, supposedly it was opened to the public in the 1970's to raise money as the civic authority forced the nuns to install running water and electricity, some of them are now situated in a closed off part of the convent.

The architecture and paintings are unbelievable and parts of it do feel 'fake', but I understand that a couple of centuries old convent needs some restoration every now and then. I had a look in the confessional and no one was there, just as well or I'd still be there!
