I'm somewhat getting used to my new SLR but have discovered that you can stitch multiple pictures together for a high quality 20megapixel panoramic view with no effort required.
Inspired by a guide I saw here http://more4u2c.wordpress.com/tag/canon-eos-550d/
I took some pictures of the Huacachina and the square in Arequipa and got the results below, it was rather easy I put the 550D to manual mode turned off the Auto whitebalance held in the AE lock and changed the lens to Manual Focus, keeping a 30% or so overlap from the last picture
The software I used was Microsoft ICE: http://research.microsoft.com/en-us/um/redmond/groups/ivm/ICE/ which required nothing more then to point to the picture I wanted to stitch together.
