Took the local bus to Lima yesterday which was a 4 hour trip so we really didn't need anything too fancy, on getting on the bus the lady warned us not to put anything in the overhead bins or on the floor and the guard outside the bus had a Garratt metal detector wand..which they don't bother even using on us gringos!
Arrived in Lima, unsure how far the hostel was we asked taxi man, there was 2 of them giggling like schoolgirls, probably seeing how much they can get out of us, he highballed a price and we got him down a few soles but we reckon he still overcharged us...but at the end of the day it was only peanuts.
Lima is pretty ruthless for driving and you'll do well if you spot a car that doesn't have at least one dent..We saw a drunk guy on a motorbike hit a curb and smash into a wall, lucky for him he wasn't going fast and was wearing a helmet!
Arrived at the accommodation, no doubles left so we are sleeping in a bunkbed..not too bad as it's the biggest bunkbed I've ever seen and it's damn comfortable so I think we'll keep it for the 2 nights were here. Limas a wee bit dearer for accommodation but the food is cheap as chips...but that doesn't matter as we found a supermarket full of fresh fruit and veg for little or nothing, so tonight we'll be cooking for the first time in 6 months and would you believe we are actually delighted about it.
The problem with South American food is it's very unhealthy, fried chicken, chips and rice and more of this junk anymore and I'll need a bypass! So on the menu is beef with pepper, chilli, spring onion, garlic and ginger..yum yum...the fact you get get a massive pineapple for less then a euro and a massive bunch of banana's for 50cents I think we'll go healthy for a few days.....guess we'll have to even it out with some extra beers! :)
On Lima, I like it so far..worst thing you can do while travelling is completely bypass somewhere because someone says it's crap. Theres been multiple times we've ignored such advice and been very happy with the place we've been.
Anyway not going to do too much today, there's a nice breeze thats carrying the sea inland so it's quite cool..
OVER AND OUT!
