Here's almost everywhere we've stayed from our travels from NZ, Australia and Asia, we've slept in a total of 51 beds over the past 6 months! I'll be sure to tally up all the flights, bus, etc! It's been a great few months....South America tomorrow! Bring it on....

New Zealand

Base, Auckland –

Ok spot in a horrible city!

We stayed in the back of a Hi-top Toyota Hi-ace for the month, we did stay in a lot of campsites – they are more or less the same but the Top Ten are the most expensive and offer nothing more then the others

Australia

Brisbane

Base Embassy Backpackers – Ok, Clean, but not an entirely nice hostel, had a weird humming grandda in our room!

Noosa

Dolphins Beach House, Sunshine Beach, Noosa

Chilled out spot, no wifi but LAN lead, nice hostel setup.

Rainbow Beach

Pippies Beachhouse - 22 Spectrum Street, Rainbow Beach, Queensland

Good atmosphere, staff make an effort to get involved, good ambience and paint a boomerang for $5!

1770 / Agnes Water

Cool Bananas - Agnes Water

Stay here, the scooteroo is a must, the guy running the show here (Greg) probably the soundest guy you’ll meet and can’t do enough for you

Airlie Beach

Beaches Hostel

You can’t miss this place, somewhat of a party zone but nowhere near as bad as Magnums, if you want sleep don’t get a room over the bar! The rooms are OK, I presume it was once a hotel turned into dorms.

Mission Beach

Scotty’s Guesthouse - 167 Reid Rd Mission Beach

Nice atmosphere, staff put on fireshow and various events such as BBQ, etc

Cairns

Cascade Gardens - 175 Lake Street, Cairns 4870, Australia

More of a hotel then a hostel, nice spot, clean…if you want a party place consider Gilligans overhere!

Darwin (Northern Territory)

Melaleuca on Mitchell - 52 Mitchell St, Darwin 0800, Australia

Not a fan of Darwin, the room was decent, the kitchen was a disgrace but that was due to other backpackers.

We stayed in a wicked camper between Darwin and Perth, staying at a lot of free and paid campsites.

Perth (Western Australia)

Swan Barracks – CBD Perth

Free parking, reasonable price for a drink at the bar (for Perth), ncie dorm. Decent book “exchange”

Malaysia

Kuala Lumpur –

Paradiso Bed & Breakfast - 116B Jalan Bukit Bintang, Kuala Lumpur

Central, Breakfast included, nice staff

Penang –

Love Lane Inn - 4 Love Lane, Georgetown, Pulau Penang,

Avoid, rooms like jail cell, cheap but you also get bedbugs here…

Langkawi –

Melati Tanjung Motel - Temonyong, Mukim Kedawang, Pantai Cenang

Once Again avoid…Bed bugs..

Sweet Inn - Lot 792 Pantai Chenang, Langkawi

Saving grace, friendly staff and nice room

Cambodia

Phnom Penh –

Waterview Guest House - 151 Eo, St. Preah Sisowath - Sangkat Wat Phnom, Khan Daun Penh Central but expensive (for Cambodia $25 per night), lovely staff and rooms

Siem Reap

New Riverside Hotel - Street Lok Taneuy | Sala Komreuk District, Siem Reap, Cambodia

Abit out of town but free tuktuk in and $1 back, Massive rooms for $20

Sihanoukville

The Small Hotel - Downtown | On a quiet street behind the Caltex Station Still one of my favourite spots from travelling, excellent hosts..A+++

Kampot

Pepper Guesthouse - On the Blissful strip, Kampot

Staff can’t really speak English very well and seem to be only interested in selling overpriced tours / bus journeys. Beware of the dogs here they are vicious. Room is OK.

Vietnam

Cantho

Kim Lan Hotel - 138 Nguyen An Ninh St, Can Tho, Vietnam

Expensive ($25) for what it is, nice room but small.

HCMC (Saigon)

Hai Ha Guesthouse - 76-78 Bui Vien St., Dist. 1, Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam

Cheap & cheerful, room wasn’t special but in a handy location and it was clean

Mui Ne

Bien Dua Resort - 136 Nguyen Dinh Chieu, Mui Ne, Vietnam

Avoid !! There are nice cheaper places that won’t use your passport to extort money out of you

Hoang Kim Golden - 140 Nguyen Dinh Chieu Str, Ham Tien, Mui Ne Ward, Phan Thiet,

Brand new room, nice staff but horrible food at their restaurant.

Dalat

Hotel Thoi Dai – 138 Phan Dinh Phung

Brand new room, lovely place, staff have little English but are nice

Nha Trang

Kim Ngan Hotel - 52 Hoang Hoa Tham, Nha Trang, Vietnam

Nice room, but CAN’T recommend as they stiffed us on the Dollar to Dong exchange rate, Very dishonest.

Hoi An

Hoi Pho - 627 Hai Ba Trung Street

Room OK and good location, Won’t recommend as they charged us for a can of fanta that we didn’t drink from the mini-bar, it was only 50 cents but they were pretty rude about it…probably because we didn’t book the bus that cost 3 times as much from them

Hue

Ngoc Hung Hotel – 46 Chu Van an,

Nice place, room has PC, but they tried to stiff us on the Dong – Dollar exchange, they backed down in the end but a good tip for Vietnam if your paying in Dong ask the room rate in Dong.

Hanoi

Hanoi Guest House, So 3 – 5 Thranh Ha Lane

Cheap, Really friendly and helpful owner, good location (the street onto looks dodgy but it’s fine!)

Sapa

Lotus Hotel, 5 Muong Hoa Road.

No heating but very warm bed, cheap and close proximity to everything.

Catba Island

Holiday View Hotel 251, 1 - 4 Road, Catba Island

Not worth ‘The upgrade’ price we paid for it, overpriced, small rooms.

Dien Bien Phu

Can’t remember the name of it but it was directly across from the Bus station, cheap and nice staff.

Laos

Muang Khua

Manotham Guesthouse – Cross over namphak river bridge

Top spot, stayed 2 nights here and wished it could have been more, great ambience here, communal dinner and stocked fridge of beer. Owner is extremely nice and helpful.. Favourite place so far.

Udomxai

Vivanh Guest House - Muangxai Districk Udomxai Province , Oudomxay

Clean, good location, lovely staff.

Luang Prabang

Sokdee Guesthouse – Ban Vatnong Khamkong Road

Tried to overcharge us when we were leaving but didn’t argue when we told them what we’d been quoted, wireless net dodgy in the rooms.

Vang Vieng

Orchid Guesthouse – U6, Savang Village

Nice clean guesthouse…shame Vang Vieng is such a shithole.

Vientiane

Saysouly Guesthouse, 23 Manthatulath Road, Ban Xieng Yeun.

As with everywhere in Laos, staff very friendly, centrally located

Thailand

Bangkok

New Merry V Guesthouse - 18 – 20 Phra Athit Road.

A bit of a walk from Khao San Road..but that’s a good thing! Cheap with no frills…the room doesn’t even have sockets!

Four Sons Village - 54/1 Trok Rongmai, Chanasongkram, Pranakan

A bit closer to Khao San Rd, room nicer then the place above but more expensive, can’t complain.

Koh Phangan

Haad Tian Beach Resort, Haad Tian, Kho Phangan

Beautiful resort, located away from the noise, too too sure about the staffs taste in music, but everyone was very nice here

Koh Tao

Sairee Cottage - Sairee Beach

Excellent value, nice cottages, everywhere in the area is a lot more expensive.

Chiang Mai

Rendezvous Guesthouse - 3/1 Soi 5 Rajchadameon Road

Central, Nice staff, Breakfast included, Nice room with fan and minibar.

Hong Kong

Ashoka Guest House - Blk. Flr. 13, A4 Chung King Mansion, 36 - 44 Nathan Road

We stayed in Tokyo Guesthouse, but booked through here, the room was excellent, the building is a massive shithole.

China

Yangshuo

Golden Prosperous Hotel - 10 Gui hua Road, Yangshuo

Cheapest accommodation so far, clean room, no heating as with many place in Yangshuo!

We stayed somewhere else up an alley near west street can’t remember the name but it was 3 times the price of the above for the same room

Beijing

Kings Joy Hotel - 81 Meishi St, Xuanwu District

More of a hotel then a hostel! Clean and beautiful room, book via hostelworld as their walkin rates are huge!

Xi’an

Han Tang Inn Youth Hostel - South Jiaodi Xincheng, Xi'an, Shaanxi, China

Favourite hostel in China, free pickup from Train station (6 am!!), cosy common area, lovely vibe…ok food as well

Shanghai

Le Tours - 136号 Bailan Road, Putuo, Shanghai

Lovely staff, Common area is an icebox, so cold!

Japan

Osaka

Hotel Taiyo - 1-2-23, TAISHI, NISHINARI

Nice place, bed on floor Japanese style! Cheap for Japan and clean

Hiroshima

Backpackers Miyajima – Miyajimaguchi

Lovely place, lovely staff, right beside the Miyajima ferry! Great spot

Kyoto

bAKpAK - 1-234 Miyagawasuji, Higashiyama-ku

Not a fan, put in separate dorms, booking system awful, just avoid for headaches sake!.

Sakura House - 188-1 Kadowaki-cho, Higashiiru, Gojo-agaru

Stayed in here after the other disaster of a place, lovely place complete with nice common room and fancy Japanese toilet seat

Nagoya

Hostel Ann - 2-4-2 Kanayama Naka-ku

Lovely spot, real Japanese feel to it, stay here if your heading to the Toyota tour!

Toyko

Sakura Hostel – 2-24-2 Asakura Taito Ku

Cheap hostel in somewhat expensive Tokyo, central near subway, common area not the best layout but the place ticks all the boxes, cheaper to book via Agoda.com then Hostelworld!
