Machu Picchu...what a place

Well after a whole night of rain we were hoping on getting some decent weather this morning, sadly it was still raining when we woke up so enroute to the train station we managed to buy 2 rain poncho's from some very enterprising Peruvians. As it was raining we jumped into a tuk-tuk for what would be a 2 minute drive.

The train was grand, exactly what you'd get in Ireland and thankfully during our 1.5 hour journey to Machu Picchu it cleared. On arrival there we had to get a bus up the hill or walk! We were told you'd be doing enough walking there so we grabbed a bus ticket, I have to say though they are certainly milking the tourists dry: The train costs: $75 return, entrance to Machu Picchu $44, bus ticket $16 return, now we saw the great wall of China for about $30 all in! Some difference and if you want to do the trek to Machu Picchu it costs around $500!!

Having said that it was totally worth it, definitely without doubt one of the most beautiful places I have ever seen..Crazy Incas! We got a great day up here and the weather was fantastic until the afternoon when it started raining again, but we were well gone by then.

We made friends with a couple of Llamas and Alpacas! They seemed to be as popular as Machu Picchu itself. Only other observations are the little piece of rope in places that wouldn't stop you from plummeting to your death! If Machu Picchu was in Ireland I doubt it would be insurable!

Got the 3pm train back to Olly and chilled for the evening, tomorrow we'll either head to Cusco and try and get a bus to Puno (Lake Titicaca)

2 out of 7 wonders of the world down!
