We arrived last night in Nagoya for the Toyota trip and thank god...it took over an hour to get to it from Nagoya..The plant is located in a place called Toyota City where alot of the factory's are located. We got there at 10am and the staff couldn't be nicer (as with the rest of Japan), we walked around the museum for 45 minutes and then viewed the robot that could play the trumpet, and he was good! Next was the future cart type thing that was displayed...we'll all own one one day I'd imagine.
I got to sit in a few of the cars including a 150,000 euro lexus (see pics)... I felt at home there and guessed that this would probably be a 250,000 car in Ireland! But what a car, every toy imaginable! I WANT!
We headed to the plant tour, unfortunately NO cameras are allowed. The trip consists of the assembly line and the welding shop, the assembly line is unbelievable, everywhere there's someone sticking together a car at an alarming pace..but there is multiple different models they make, to avoid overproduction they produce to order in Toyota!Anyway it's poetry in motion and one of my favourite trips so far.
We then went to the welding shop and what a sight this was..the robots (Kawasaki Arms) welded 4000 spot points to 400 parts in 60 seconds..blink and it's over..a couple of sparks here and there and thats it,but the arms are very human like.
Highly recommended tour..it's around 3 hours and FREE! Needless to say I didn't mention I was Nissan till I die!
OH and YES it was snowing today...Bring on Chile!
