Caught the 11am Bus to Penang today, the bus we wanted to travel on wasn't running until 4pm so I went to the touts and he took me to a bus, I was skeptical at first but he gave us a fair price at MYR36 (around 9 Euro) for a 450km 4.5 hour bus journey. We got onto the bus and the seats were unreal, I never wanted to leave this bus!!! There was enough leg room to swing a cat and the seats were like couches (only 18 seats or so on the coach)
We Arrived in Penang at the bus terminal and were told that the only way to Georgetown was by Taxi, Although I did think the guy was lying. Multiple Taxi men approached us and I asked the price, he quoted us MYR35, I told him I'd give him 20MYR and he took it straight away (It's impossible to find a taxi with a working meter in Malaysia), so I might have high balled the price, still the equivalent of 4 euro to go 20 minutes in his cab was OK, and he was pretty lifting it! While we were driving down the freeway my door started to open, he asked me to open the door
and pull it closed again while he was driving, but nothing ceases to amaze me here: our bus driver filled the coach with petrol while the engine was running!
We wandered the streets of Penang which are pretty middling, they have an open sewer which runs down each street, one guy we talked to said he saw tonnes of rats running down it. We went to little India for a bite to eat and ended up with a
massive feast! I haven't been that full in a long time
